Frequently asked questions
Downloading and installing TuneBox
I downloaded TuneBox and no installer appears. How do I install the program?
TuneBox does not need to be installed: it is a ready-to-run program — just download and run it. You will not see the traditional setup wizard (“Next, Next, Finish”), and that is normal. Follow 3 steps.
- 1) Download TuneBox: go to the website, log in to your account and open the Download tab; the download delivers a single file called TuneBox.exe.
- 2) Unblock the file (important step): for safety, Windows usually blocks programs downloaded from the internet. Right-click TuneBox.exe and choose “Properties” (or select the file and press Alt+Enter); on the “General” tab, at the bottom of the window, in the “Security” section, tick the “Unblock” checkbox and click OK. This block is just a standard Windows precaution for any file that came from outside your computer — it does not mean anything is wrong with the program.
- 3) Put TuneBox wherever you prefer: copy TuneBox.exe to the folder where you intend to use it (the Desktop, for example) and double-click it to open.
Placement, measuring and calibration
I calibrated and the sound got worse or strange
Calibration makes the response curve flat, and that removes the sound's original coloration. To fix it, in Live you can bring the coloration back with the source's bass, mid and treble controls. If the sound still seems strange, the measurement probably captured enhancements that were on (the player's bass boost, an "enhancer", ambience effects, the mixer's "rock/pop" mode) or the speakers at different volumes. Turn off every enhancer, match the speaker volumes and run the wizard again measuring the raw sound.
The sound is harsh or distorted and the correction doesn't remove it
That's input clipping: the signal went past the ceiling and the information was lost. Set the input gain with the sound at the real event volume, keeping the peak between -12 and -6 dBFS; the CLIP light must never light up.
One side is louder than the other, or the coverage is uneven
The speakers were at different volumes when you measured. Match the level of all of them before measuring — it's the starting point for everything.
Up front the sound blasts and at the back you can barely hear it
The speaker is right on the first row: every time the distance doubles, the volume drops 6 dB. Move the speaker away from the nearest listener; the goal is for that difference to stay under 6 dB across the room.
There's no bass, or the bass disappears at some spots on the floor
The sub is off the floor or out of the corner, or two subs are apart on opposite sides (the bass cancels at certain spots). Put the sub on the floor, ideally in a corner, and keep the two subs together.
The highs vanish at the sides or as I walk around the room
You're outside the beam of the highs (about 60 degrees). Raise the speakers to ear height and aim the axis of each one at the center of the audience.
I placed everything and the calibration still came out wrong
The microphone was probably outside the beam of one of the speakers. Put it in the zone where the beams of all the speakers cross, roughly where the audience will be.
Why does TuneBox avoid the dedicated-subwoofer topology?
Your microphone doesn't measure the bass reliably (typical of a dynamic vocal mic). Use a measurement mic or a condenser; see the microphone table on the Learn page.
The correction turned out imprecise, especially at the extremes
You measured with a "colored" mic (a vocal one). Prefer a neutral measurement mic; if you use your own, accept that the deep bass and the very high treble come out less accurate.
In a church, big hall or gym the voice isn't intelligible (echo, slurred words)
It's a reverberant room without delayed reinforcement. Let TuneBox run the diagnosis and use the PA + Fill topology (the reinforcement waits for the front sound and fires together).
During the show (Live)
The mic voice comes back delayed or "detached" for whoever is singing
It's high latency. When someone sings and hears themselves through the monitor, use ASIO mode (install your interface maker's driver, or ASIO4ALL). When the computer is only the player, WASAPI is enough.
The microphone squeals — how to stop the feedback (that whistle)
Before the show, do a "ring-out": raise the mic gain until it's on the edge of squealing so the suppressor gets ready. It spots the frequency about to squeal and lowers only it.
I push the volume and the sound gets flat and tiring
You're pushing everything against the limiter. Leave headroom: the limiter is the seatbelt, not the accelerator.
Connections and gear safety
I turned on phantom power (+48V) — can I damage gear?
Yes, on the wrong gear. Use phantom only on the measurement or condenser mic and turn it off when moving to line-level gear (controller or mixer).
A speaker or the amplifier burned out or went into protection
Likely an impedance below the amplifier's minimum (like a short circuit). Never connect speakers with an impedance lower than the manual states, and match the power — too much hurts, too little distorts.
Audio interface and Windows
I moved the interface to another USB port and the sound changed (the highs dropped)
Windows stores levels, format and "Enhancements" per port, and the Enhancements filter the treble. Always use the same USB port, disable the audio "Enhancements", allow exclusive mode and keep it at 48 kHz.
TuneBox doesn't recognize my interface, or it fails homologation
The built-in (onboard) sound card is ignored on purpose; use a USB audio interface. If it's unknown, the app validates it with a loopback test — run a cable from the output to the input, leave 2 channels in Recording and "Listen to this device" unchecked.
The interface failed for "monitoring on"
A MIX/MON knob or the "Listen to this device" option is feeding the sound back to the input. Turn off direct monitoring and run the test again.
My player's sound doesn't go through TuneBox (it goes straight to the interface)
Windows tends to promote the interface to default device and the player bypasses the app. TuneBox uses an exclusive output precisely to force the path — route the audio to TuneBox, not straight to the USB interface.
License and activation
I didn't receive my activation code
The code is only sent after the email is validated and the payment is confirmed. Validate your email (the link lasts 48 h), check the spam folder and look in "My license" in your panel; if you already paid and it didn't arrive, resend it from the panel.
I formatted or changed the drive and TuneBox asks to activate again
The license is tied to the computer, and formatting requires reactivating that same PC — it's allowed and unlimited. Reactivate online (at home, with internet) before the event.
I want to use it on another computer (transfer the license)
It's one computer at a time, with unlimited online transfers. Copy the code in your account, enter it on the new PC, and the app revokes the previous machine and activates the new one.
TuneBox requires revalidating over the internet before opening
More than 15 days went by without an online revalidation (this applies to lifetime and subscription). Connect to the internet once; opening the app with a connection now and then avoids this screen.
My subscription expired, or the PC clock triggers a warning
Expiration only shows at startup, never in the middle of the show. Renew online; if the computer clock is fast, fix it (the app protects itself against a "stretched" date).
If the event stops
The power went out or the event stopped — how do I get back fast without redoing everything?
TuneBox saves the complete setup. At startup, choose "Resume the last setup and go straight to Live", with the same calibrated interface and the same USB port.
On resuming, it warns "interface missing", "different port" or "environment changed"
These are preventive warnings, they don't block anything. Connect the interface used in the calibration and the same USB port; if you changed rooms, confirm to continue or redo the measurement.
